2026 Musicum Laude Christmas edition

2026 Musicum Laude Christmas edition

Musicum Laude is one of the most vibrant and significant vocal events in the Carpathian Basin: an audition, an international competition, and a singers’ marketplace all in one. Its jury includes directors of Western opera houses, casting managers, and artist agents, who not only assess the young singers’ performances but also offer real job opportunities to the most talented. Musicum Laude is a place where singers can find their mentor, their theatre, and their manager all at once.

The event connects three countries and three cities: Vienna, Oradea, and Debrecen. The live auditions take place in Vienna and Debrecen, the masterclass is hosted by Oradea, and the final and gala are held at the Csokonai National Theatre in Debrecen. Places in the masterclass are limited.

Oradea is a particularly fitting host: as a university city, it preserves a tradition of bel canto teaching that has trained singers acclaimed on the world’s great opera stages.

Musicum Laude is therefore not merely a competition but a true springboard toward an international career for young singers.

If a competitor arrives late due to an objective reason, the committee may decide to reschedule their performance during the same stage.

Evaluation of Contestants

The evaluation takes place in three stages:

  • 1–7 December 2026 — Preselection: Based on video submissions, assessed by a jury of master singing teachers.
  • 19 December 2026 — Semifinals: Based on live performances, assessed by a jury of managers and directors of opera houses and musical theatres.
  • 21 December 2026 — Finals and Gala Concert: The final performances are assessed by a jury of distinguished figures in today’s musical world.

Results are announced according to the following schedule:

  • 7 December 2026: Announcement of the preselection results.
  • 19 December 2026: Announcement of the contestants admitted to the finals, following the conclusion of the semifinals on the same day.
  • 21 December 2026: Announcement of the final results and presentation of the awards during the Gala Concert.

The jury’s decisions are final. No appeals or complaints regarding the competition results will be accepted.

Each jury member awards each contestant a score of up to 100 points and provides brief feedback. Scores are submitted to the jury secretary, who calculates each contestant’s average score. In the event of a tie, the President of the Jury makes the final decision.

The participation fee must be paid electronically at the time of registration. The registration fee is non-refundable, including in cases where the applicant withdraws, is not selected for the semifinal or does not appear at the competition. Every candidate receives feedback from a voice teacher, even if not selected for the semifinal.

The audition and master class fees will not be refunded by the organizers if the applicant withdraws or fails to attend.

The audition and master class are available in limited numbers.

Participation in the audition and masterclass is optional.
